Loads of Snapper. We were running 3 ~5 hook rig setups. Fishing with roll squid. Deep Drop fishing down to 280 ~ 320 meters for these babies. My faithful Ryobi and tanacom bull power reels rock.

"We estimate it close to 80#. It was picked up on iron with a #6PE Shimano jig rod and 35# main braided line on a 6000HG Stella reel. Took us 1.5 hours to bring it up. We had that rod bent over working it up to the surface. It was one hell of a great day out there." Jeff

On Wednesday, June 3rd, this team set out on a mission. They had just one objective in mind and that was to catch a marlin. Well,... they came back with two. The larger one is over 400lbs and the smaller marlin weighed in around 170lbs.

Into the Abyss of Okinawa

Divers descend into the water from the dive boat as they prepare themselves to see some of most beautiful coral reefs on Okinawa. Check out the clarity of the water. This day visibility was over a 100ft. Diving had to end early as the weather changed rapidly and we returned to the port before lunch. The sun only stuck its head out for a brief few minutes and the clouds began to engulf us. Winds shifted from the South to the North and then North East. Wave heights went from 1.5 meters to 4 meters.

Today's boat dive team consisted of 4 "Discover Scuba" divers and 3 "Fun" divers. We split up into groups of three and dove right into some of the most beautiful water's on Okinawa. The temperature was just right; not to hot or cold. I wore a 3mm full wetsuit and had no problems at all. We came across a small sea turtle, cuttlefish, lion fish, bat fish and many other species of fish.

We went for a two tank dive and then were craving some sashimi so we went a short 15 minutes the port and landed this baby. After a few swift movements with the knife we had sashimi for 5 and enough to take home for a couple of small entrees.

From left; these two anglers hooked a "makubu" and "aagai" while tenbin fishing out of Awase port on the Pacific Ocean side of Okinawa. Makubu is known as the tusk fish and is very good eating. It is common used for sashimi and soups. Aagai is a member of the parrot fish familiar and is the aloso used for sashimi as well. Awase port is located 15 mins from Camp Foster. Head straight out the Legion Club gate and follow the road down the for approx 5 km. Go thru the Hwy 329 intersection and continue to till you see the port on the left side of the road.

Out at the center buoy we caught Katsumi Gara (Jack's), Surgeon fish, BlueFin Trevally, and Muru Aji today. Had several line breaks,..... saw a couple of sharks. Fishing weather on Okinawa was great. The waves were not too big, cool breeze of the Pacific Ocean was blowing on our sunburn skin and ice cold were readily available to quench our thirst. Good job to all anglers who made this a successful, safe trip. See ya next charter :-)

It's official. Yoshimaru landed a record 250kg Marlin on 80lbs test making it a record for 2007. This Marlin was caught in early Sept 2007.

Well, Typhoon Nari left as fast as it came. Thought it was going to be big, but there was not much bang after the fact. Swell should go down in a couple of days and we'll be back to fishing and diving......:-)

Rough weather has stopped Inshore Fishing and Diving Charters in Onna

Seems the weather has been very rough the past couple of days due to the typhoon in Taiwan.
This has not stopped diving charters in Onna village though... We are protected by the Onnadake mountain line and experience only choppy water at the surface during this strong wind period.

Another Great Weekend for Fishing

We have had some great success in the past couple of weeks before the typhoon Man-yi in reeling in some big fish. Yoshimaru out of Naha Engan port pulled in a total of 9 Marlin within a 5 day period alone. Chris and team at Awase also landed a 200+kg Marlin. Way to go Awase!!. Let's go get some fish this weekend.

Night Dive

Thank you to everyone who made the night dive a safe and successful one. The dive went smooth. First dive was at Manza Dream Hole: (max depth 89ft., total time under= approx. 53min) visibility was great. We ran across several grouper and parrett fish. What an exciting dive.
Dive 2- Manza Mo, visibility was also good. (max depth 75ft., total time under= approx. 49 min).
